    Ides of March

    Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

It’s been along time since we rock ‘n’ rolled! Wow, I’ve been putting the log into blog lately eh? How f*ckin’ slack!

Any ho… stuff has been happening in the Dogs camp. You might have noticed a few murmurings re recording and it’s all true (well, most of it)! After a last minute scramble, we came up with 7 more tracks (to join our existing trilogy of songs) for our next album… and I have to say, after hearing a rough mix of what’s been recorded, I’m pretty damn happy with how it’s sounding!

So with the album mostly recorded, “what’s next?” I hear you ask… There’s just a couple of vocal verses and some backing vocals left to record and then it’s time to mix it all properly… you know, tweak all the volumes of everything; drum kit, percussion, bass, piano, guitars, keyboards, vocals… on just one of the songs alone, there’s something like 22 different guitar tracks! It’s quite a process man, and an entire day will be dedicated to the mixing of each individual track, before the songs are all sent off for mastering. Then there’s coding, album cover stuff and all sorts of sh*t I probably don’t even know about! So don’t start holding your breath just yet…

In June, we’re reuniting with our partners in crime, Wellington supergroup; Supermodel, for 3 more live shows in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch… BOOYAH!

And who knows, later in the year we’ll probably make another vid and maybe f*ck off to Germany to see what the scene’s like there! Fasten ya seat belts y’all!

    Final summer tour blog!

    Saturday, February 25th, 2012

Hey everyone, Blinky the roadie here.

The summer tour is over, we’ve all gone back to our respective roosts and I finally feel – a week later – like my ear drums have returned back to normal.
So, into it then! We all flew up to Wellington to pick up the van which was luckily still parked in the long-term car park. I drove from Wellington to New Plymouth – and had a minor issue realising that a red light meant “stop” at some road works (more…)

    Summer tour blog #3

    Monday, February 13th, 2012

    Alex here again folks.
The third leg of our summer tour was quite possibly our most eventful to date! We left Christchurch at the very un-rock’n'roll time of 7.30am for the 15-hour drive up to Raglan (except Ace, who was already in Wellington) on Wednesday morning. I think Infinite put it the best when he said we were all feeling a bit “stunned” at the early hour.

There was some controversy within the van after we picked up Supermodel in Wellington, and I have been waiting until the publishing of this blog to reveal my full responsibility of what occurred on the road between Turangi and Raglan. (more…)

    Summer tour blog #1

    Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Hi folks, Alex the roadie here. It has been a while since I’ve written a blog about Live and Loud, chiefly because we had a couple of months off from the tour!
This time around we headed off to the North Island and were absolutely stoked to welcome Wellington rock stars Supermodel to headline the shows. Once again, we stuck to our tried-and-true format of going away for a weekend, having a breather, and heading back out again.

Stay tuned for the lowdown of our North Island legs from roadie Alex; in his upcoming blogs…

Supermodel touring the North Island with Sleeping Dogs

    Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Wellington rock icons Supermodel are teaming up with Christchurch wave-makers Sleeping Dogs in an eight-date tour through the North Island this summer. In a fresh incarnation of the Live and Loud Tour – a tour which took Sleeping Dogs throughout New Zealand’s heartland for 30 memorable shows in 2011 – the newly recruited Supermodel join the musical crusade to bring rock to the people.

Supermodel are fresh off the release and promotional run for their successful debut album To The Mountains, and are a highly experienced live outfit. They have supported some of our country’s finest musical exports including Midnight Youth and Gin Wigmore, and are right at home playing to a packed out pub or to a crowd of 15,000. The focus of their music is on melody, harmony and a rocking tune; the juxtaposition of having a brother and a sister fronting the band makes for an excellent live dynamic that should not be missed.

Sleeping Dogs are currently writing their next album in Christchurch, and are keen for more adventure since concluding the 2011 leg of their tour for their most recent album, Myth Reducer; recorded with legendary producers Greg Haver and mixing guru Clint Murphy. A recent foray to the North Island whetted the interest of both themselves and their audiences, and they are now back to deliver their musical message in full. Their music has been described as “unavoidable, deep and unapologetic”, so if you are a fan of highly original rock music… you must see this band.

Supermodel and Sleeping Dogs will be wending their way through the winding roads of the North Island in 2012. Join them, and you will be entertained.

    Dux Gig Cancelled

    Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Due to venue issues the “Rock n Roll 2011″ show at Dux Live, scheduled for the 3rd of December, has been cancelled.

We do have two more shows booked for the Xmas period, so if you’re lurking around the top of the South Island check out the show schedule; on the 22nd of December we’re in Murchison and then on the 23rd it’s Mapua… “Ho ho ho!”

    Pith and All

    Friday, November 4th, 2011

It’s exciting times at Sleeping Dogs HQ at the mo… that’s right, we’re rehearsing new material! Fresh ideas are coming out of the woodwork, literally it seems, with the studio around us in the process of getting framed and jibbed! The rhythm section’s jamming out, Thomas is locking himself away for hours at a time musing over lyrics and tweaking chord changes and I’m even picking up the guitar again to figure some sh*t out… crikey!

On the 3rd of December some of this newly inspired rock juice will be freshly squeezed for you (pith and all) for the very first time at Christchurch’s new Dux Live! Joining us will be Von Voin Strum, The Easy Hearts and our old partners in grime House of Mountain.

    Dunedin, Gore and Stewie isle…

    Thursday, September 29th, 2011

It’s a bit late in the week to be starting a blog about an event that started seven days ago, but here we go anyway! Alex here again, roadie and general tech for the ongoing Live and Loud tour, featuring Sleeping Dogs, House of Mountain, Hera and Happiness Stan.

This time last Thursday we were en route to the lovely seaside town of Dunedin, off to play at a famously haunted place called the Chick’s Hotel, the scene of a jilted lover’s double homicide in the 1970s. I was driving the van as we arrived at the city; it was immediately noticed by all of us travelling together how nice it is to be in a properly functioning town again! There were actually people thronging the streets in the after-school rush, a currently unfamiliar sight to anybody who hails from Christchurch.

We continued out of Dunedin to Port Chalmers, where we found our venue in all its kitsch glory. (more…)
